Annyeong Herbal's Philosophy

At Annyeong Herbal, our philosophy is grounded in the wisdom of natural healing. We believe, as Hippocrates did: "The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food." In this spirit, we craft remedies that are as nourishing as they are healing.

The Korean peninsula, with its rich landscapes of mountains, surrounding seas, and four distinct seasons, fosters herbs and plants with unique medicinal properties that have been recognized for centuries. Korean herbal doctors have long studied these indigenous herbs, formulating medicines that have been proven effective over many generations. At Annyeong Herbal, we continue this tradition, refining these proven remedies to support the body’s natural healing force in combating the common ailments brought on by modern life's stresses, environmental toxins, processed foods and lifestyles.

We are dedicated to helping people restore balance and wellness by harnessing the power of Korean herbal remedies, tailored to meet the challenges of living in today’s world.

Our History

Annyeong Herbal was founded on the deep expertise of Dr. Il Chon, who has dedicated many decades to studying and crafting Korean herbal remedies. The products featured on our website were originally developed over 10 years ago, and since then, they have brought health and relief to countless customers. As we continue to develop our formulations, our mission remains the same: to help more people tap into their body’s natural healing force to combat the common ailments of modern life.

Il Chon

Dr. Chon's journey as a herbal medicine practitioner began in the serene countryside of Chungcheong province, where he developed a profound reverence for the healing properties of Korean herbs. From a young age, he witnessed the transformative effects of moxibustion and herbal remedies on the health of those around him, sparking a lifelong passion for this ancient practice. During his summers spent in the mountainous village of Gapsa in Gongju, he delved into the study of herbal medicine, nurturing his curiosity and knowledge. In the mid-1980s, he relocated to the United States, where he completed an oriental medicine program at Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, California. He further expanded his expertise by studying herbal medicine and music therapy, and he continues to explore the depths of traditional oriental medicine as a Naturopathic doctor. As a specialist in moxibustion therapy and neurotherapy, he has dedicated himself to treating numerous elderly and critically ill patients. In 2014, he founded T J Herbs in Buena Park, California, with the aim of manufacturing and distributing early versions of his herbal products. Following this venture, he established Annyoung Clinic and Annyoung Herb LLC after moving to San Jose in 2018, California, Ji Hwang and David Hwang joined him to create Annyeong Herbal LLC, with the mission of extending their unique treatments to a broader audience.

Ji Hwang

For nearly three decades, Ji Hwang has worked as a jewelry maker, working in New York City and Boston before relocating to California a few years ago. As time passed, she began to experience chronic pain, and although she explored numerous treatments—from injections to medication—the relief they offered was often temporary and came with unwanted side effects.

This journey led her to explore holistic healing, a natural progression influenced by her upbringing with two aunts who practiced acupuncture and herbal medicine. Meeting Dr. Chon marked a transformative turning point. Through him, she found not only healing but also a deep connection to the wisdom of herbs and a new path forward in wellness. Immersed in this tradition, she has embraced a more mindful, present approach to life. She now hopes that Dr. Chon’s herbal remedies can bring others the same profound healing and reconnection she experienced.

David Hwang

David Hwang brings a unique blend of professional expertise and personal passion to the company. Born in Korea and immigrating to the U.S. at age 10, David followed a familiar path for many Asian immigrants, earning his degree in electrical engineering and later attending law school to become a lawyer. Throughout his 30-year legal career, David worked both at prestigious law firms and in-house with tech companies, most recently in the fast-paced environment of Silicon Valley.

While pursuing and achieving career success, the immense pressure of his professional aspirations took a toll on his well-being, leading to chronic exhaustion, poor sleep, back pain and inflammation. In desperate search of relief, David turned to Korean herbal remedies crafted by Dr. Chon. The positive impact of these remedies on his overall health and outlook inspired him to co-found Annyeong Herbal with his wife, Ji Hwang, and Dr. Chon so others could also experience the profound healing benefits of Korean herbal medicine.
